(Brazil): On this field trip, the user can visit 15 numbered stops in and around Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in the Reconcavo basin, the oldest oil-producing basin in Brazil (beginning in the 1940s, and now with 85 separate oil and gas fields and proved reserves of 4.7 billion barrels).
Many stops focus on outcrops and roadcuts of the most important pre-rift (Jurassic) and syn-rift (lower Cretaceous) reservoirs in the basin. Other stops emphasize source rocks and seals in the syn-rift lacustrine shales along with their relationship to nearby faults and fault-related conglomerates. Two unique stops include a shale diapir and a deformation zone along a transfer fault.
