American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

The AAPG Regional Variations in Charge Systems and the Impact on Petroleum Fluid Properties in Exploration workshop took place from 11-13 February 2019 at the Steigenberger Hotel, Business Bay, Dubai. This was the first edition of this workshop and we received 33 attendees from 20 different companies and 12 different countries.

This three-day event consisted of technical presentations, breakout sessions and poster presentations. The event was dedicated to sharing knowledge, ideas and workflows related to predicting, characterizing and establishing fluid properties in exploration. The workshop emphasized case studies and workflows which help delineate and mitigate for charge risk in exploration and appraisal.

The opening of the event included an welcome keynote address delivered by Francois Bouchet, AAPG Middle East Vice-President followed by a full day of technical presentations.

In total, the Regional Variations in Charge Systems workshop included 6 sessions, 24 oral presentations and 4 poster presentations.

The workshop’s 6 technical sessions focused on the following themes:

  • Source Rock Organofacies, Development and Preservation
  • Heat flow, Charge and Migration Modelling
  • Geochemical Characterization of HC and Non-HC Fluids
  • Reservoir Alteration Processes
  • Fluid Compositional Analysis on an Operations Time-Scale
  • Integrated Charge Systems Analysis

We would like to thank all the attendees for their active participation. A special thanks to the workshop committee for their efforts in helping us plan and execute this event. Thank you for the amazing support!
