Having visible, relatable role models is critically important. Given the high visibility and attendance at conference plenary sessions, I hope that the AAPG Women's Network will help conference committees in identifying and inviting qualified women to join panel and plenary sessions at AAPG events. PROWESS is now the AAPG Women's Network

We are excited to announce that PROWESS has been re-named the AAPG Women's Network (AAPGWN) and will be known as such from now on. In the coming days, you'll see this rolled out to the greater AAPG community. The website has been updated accordingly. We hope you will help us promote this change and encourage greater membership in the AAPG Women’s Network.

In the meantime, please review the attached charter for more clarification on AAPGWN's mission and vision moving forward.

The effects of the “Me, too” movement have rippled throughout every facet of society over the past year leading many organizations to reevaluate policies toward sexual harassment and discrimination. The field of geoscience is no exception.
At the Geological Society of America’s (GSA) annual meeting last November, GSA President Robbie Gries explored the topic in her presidential address titled, “Navigating ‘Me, too’ in the Geosciences.” While women have made great strides in the geosciences, both in academia and in the industry, Gries finds there is more work to do.
Robbie Gries has served as a past president of AAPG, and in addition to her role as current GSA president, she is also a petroleum geologist, the founder of Priority Oil and Gas LLC and author of "Anomalies: Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology."

I did notice that when I look at "in the news"...the first few items are Prowess items, but then goes to Teacher of the Year and other items before it ever gets near actual Prowess news articles from the last couple of years (if it ever does, I did not keep going as there were too many non-Prowess items.
